What is the Matrix Spacer System?

The Matrix Spacer System is the next stage in spacer system design from CA Building Products.

Comprising of a bar and bracket assembly developed to meet the latest changes to Part L along with the ability to install insulation continuously.

The Matrix Spacer System is manufactured from galvanised steel by CA Building Products. Like all of CA system components it can be recycled at the end of the building's life, further reducing the environmental impact of both the Matrix Spacer System and CA Building Products built up roof and wall systems.

In 1996 CA Building Products launched Twin-Therm® with it's unique performance of the Therma-block. This system eliminated thermal bridging enhancing building performance and durability. The Matrix Spacer System takes progress even further by reducing roof U-values as low as 0.14W/m²K.

How Does It Work?

Installation on site has been simplified and using mechanisms designed into the spacer system, construction is quicker than ever.

The performance of the system starts at the base of the bracket. Each Matrix bracket has a 3mm EPDM pad minimising thermal bridging.

The Matrix Brackets simply 'twist and lock' in to the Matrix Bar which is aligned to the relative positions on the liner panel. This simple mechanism creates greater strength throughout the built up system.

The Matrix brackets are then fixed through the liner panel and into the purlins or cladding rails. With the custom designed swage at the end of each Matrix bar, each bar interlocks in to the previous one to create one continuous beam.

The space between each run of the Matrix bar allows the system to be constructed without the need to 'cut & tuck' insulation. This feature saves time in the building process and helps the thermal performance of the building by ensuring continuous insulation.

The Matrix Bracket

With the ever increasing demands being put on the delivery of the building envelope, by Part L 2010 and from clients wanting the optimum performance from their building envelope, the Matrix Spacer System has been specifically designed to enhance the building envelope performance.

The design principle behind the Matrix Bracket means that system depths can be supplied from 80mm to 300mm allowing the system to achieve U-values as low as 0.14W/m²K.

The Matrix Brackets increase in height in 20mm increments from 80mm to 300mm. This gradual stepping allows the system to be adapted to a multitude of uses from new build to refurbishment.

Find the right U-value and product, instantly:

Below is a drop down box, in which are all the U-values offered by the Matrix Spacer System. Simply select your desired U-value for either a roof or a wall application, and the information will appear to the right. Just another little example of how the Matrix Spacer System makes your life easier.

Select a U-value (W/m²k)

U-values stated in ADL2A Part L 2010 for England and Wales:

  • 'Backstop' Values:
    • Roofs: 0.25 W/m²k
    • Walls: 0.35 W/m²k
  • 'Notional Building' Values
    • Roofs: 0.18 W/m²k
    • Walls: 0.26 W/m²k

Once you have selected a U-value from the drop down on the left, the information will appear here...

The Matrix Bar

Available Matrix Bar Lengths to suit CA LT17 1000 Liner

Matrix Bars are available in 1200mm (MSB-1200) and 3600mm (MSB-3600) lengths for use on a CA LT17 1000 Liner

Available Matrix Bar Lengths to suit CA 32 1000R Liner

Matrix Bars are available in 1167mm (MSB-1167) and 3501mm (MSB-3501) lengths for use on a CA 32 1000R Liner

The Matrix Bar

Making the overall installation quicker and easier is at the heart of the Matrix Spacer System, this is why the Matrix Bar has been engineered to provide a 50mm top fixing flange. Following on from the out-going Therma-bar, the 50mm fixing flange makes installation easier, offering a wider area for fixings to be installed. Mis-drilled fasteners are greatly reduced making the Matrix Spacer System the most practical and cost efficient for the roofing contractor.

Every Matrix Bar has an interlocking swage. This means that the bars securely lock at both ends, giving greater strength to the system and reductions in installation time.

What can the Matrix Spacer System do for me?

The Matrix Spacer System has been designed with speed of installation in mind. With the interlocking mechanism and the Matrix Bars being supplied in lengths of up to 3600mm, vast roof and wall areas can be covered quickly and efficiently. To further aid efficiency on site, the Matrix Brackets can be locked in at any place along the Matrix Bar, for fast, simple and secure installation.

The Matrix Spacer System is designed to have a greater space between brackets. This reduction in brackets helps make the Matrix Spacer System a vital component in cost savings, as well as offering increased performance and strength, throughout the CA Building Products systems.

With the reduction in brackets inside the built up system, there are less points of contact for heat to be lost through the building envelope via thermal bridging. The Matrix Spacer System is completely manufactured in the UK and every possible measure to reduce the CO2 impact of the product has been taken.

Thanks to the enhanced spacing and overall strength of the system, the brackets can be installed at 1200mm centres, allowing Therma-quilt insulation to be laid out, ensuring continuity of insulation.

The Matrix Spacer System is manufactured in the UK and every possible measure to reduce the CO2 impact of the product has been taken.

The Matrix Spacer System is the central component to our built up roof and wall systems. At the heart of our Twin-Therm®, River-Therm®, SolarWall® and PlanoWall systems, you will find the Matrix Spacer System, giving up to 25 years worth of peace of mind with the CA Group Single Source Guarantee.

The Matrix Spacer System is one of the strongest systems available on the market today. With the Matrix Bar being manufactured from 1.5mm galvanised steel, it attains higher performance under testing than other systems.

The Matrix Spacer System is just one component that makes CA Building Products roof and wall systems truly future proof. The Matrix Spacer System ensures that a building's roof is tested as Non-Fragile. Foot traffic for inspection and maintenance will not have a detrimental effect on the system, and does not require proprietary walkway systems.

Refurbishment has never been simpler...

With an ever increasing number of businesses choosing to stay in their current buildings and refurbish them, the Matrix Spacer System is a perfect starting point for re-roofing and flat to pitch conversions. The Matrix Spacer System has a low impact on weight for existing roofs and offers the strength and stability required to ensure longevity on a refurbished building.

The Matrix Spacer System is perfect for refurbisment works.
