A Sustainable Future, Need Not Cost

With over 52% of the UKs CO2 emissions being generated from buildings, climate change is a topic that the construction industry needs to address. The Government are doing their part to enforce change by introducing legislation such as Approved Document L (aka Part L) and Energy Performance Certificates.
On Friday 30th April the Government released the 2010 amendments to Part L. It stated that for non domestic buildings backstop U-values will remain but the building must improve by an “Aggregate 25%” over and above the 2006 regulation. The ‘notional building’ has also been reviewed and is a notional building for the 2010 regulation, which comes in to force 1st October 2010.
The expectations are challenging and will become more so as we get closer to the Government net zero carbon target of 2019. There are many solutions to ensure compliance but it is vital that the consequences and gains of each are fully understood.
CA Group have prepared a guide on Part L, looking at the options available to compliance, which include low and zero carbon technologies (LZC’s). To read more, click here.
