Another milestone in CA Group’s sustainable delivery

CA Group have just announced that they have saved a staggering 322 tonnes of CO2 on the recently completed Marks and Spencer distribution centre in Bradford.
The 95,000m2 building rolled the longest single roof sheet ever produced; a record breaking 178 metre long and also delivered the largest amount of CO2 ever offset by CA Group through Corus Corus Confidex Sustain®.
The Twin-Therm® walls and River-Therm® roof have been assessed as part of the Confidex Sustain® Guarantee, meaning that all unavoidable carbon emissions for the whole building envelope throughout its entire lifecycle, cradle to cradle, were offset by investing in environmental projects worldwide.
Carbon offsets are credits for reductions in greenhouse gas emissions made at another location which create renewable energy and reduce the need for fossil-fuel powered energy. One tonne of offset carbon means there will be one less tonne of CO2 in the atmosphere than there would otherwise have been. CO2 has been deemed as one of the greenhouse gases responsible for climate change and the scientific consensus states that carbon emissions must be reduced by 80% by 2050 to avoid catastrophic climate change. An offset-inclusive carbon reduction programme is an immediate and cost-effective way to meet stakeholder pressure by setting and meeting stretching carbon reduction targets, prepare for increasing regulation and mitigate future risks as carbon becomes an increasingly costly commodity.
The Corus Confidex Sustain® Guarantee assesses the impact of the whole pre-finished steel cladding system including the insulation and fixings and not just one element. It is backed by a robust, reliable and fully traceable process for investing in climate friendly projects underpinned by the CarbonNeutral Protocol.
Brian Watson, CA Group Commercial Director commented: “We are very proud of this groundbreaking project and the enormous savings we achieved on CO2. ProLogis and Marks and Spencer set stringent targets to achieve the sustainable and carbon neutral building they wanted. This consistent delivery demonstrates CA Group’s commitment to sustainability and is just one of the sustainable solutions that are available. “
